I’ll just cut to the chase.. I’m talking about snail mail people. Yes, the mail that you send and takes a few days to get to someone. You may be thinking “why would I do this if I could just text my friends?” and to that I say oh honey, it’s so different. Getting a letter in the mail from a friend is seriously one of the best feelings. Back in high school my friends and I would send letters to each other just for fun. We had our cell phones and could text each other or Snapchat each other or post pictures together on Instagram, and we did do all of that, but we also sent letters and it was so personal and fun.
Recently my friend sent me a letter just saying that I am loved and thought about and that we should hangout soon; it was so simple yet made such an impact. It truly made me feel so loved, it was the highlight of my day, and it put a smile on my face for the rest of the day. If something so small and so kind and so cheap is that available to us, why aren’t more people from our generation doing it? Because it takes more effort? Because it’s not as convenient? I mean aren’t our friends and the people that we love worth it? Nice and thoughtful texts are great, but nothing shows love and care more than taking the time to write and send a letter.
If you don’t know how to address a letter, here’s an example:
I’d hate to think of snail mail as “vintage,” but if it helps to think of it that way – isn’t vintage back in? If you’re trendy and dressing like you’re straight out of the 90’s, why not send a letter like they did in the 90’s and all the eras before?
A great and cute idea for sending letters in the mail is sending post cards! Next time you’re traveling or in a city or beach town or are anywhere, buy a post card and send it to your friend or friends! When I was in Ireland a few years ago, I bought an adorable paint-your-own postcards book from Flying Tiger Copenhagen (side note: if you’re ever in Europe, go to this store, it’s amazing and they have locations all throughout Europe), and it comes with a paint brush and paint and it’s just fantastic. Painting your own postcards is a great idea and it would make your friends so happy and feel so special!
I challenge and urge you to send out at least one letter this week to a friend. It’s so affordable, all you have to pay for is a card, an envelope, and a stamp, but chances are you already have all those things lying somewhere around your house. It will make your friend(s) feel so loved, cared for, happy, and content. And a great perk to sending a card is that you’ll probably get one back! You can make it a fun thing you do with your friend, friends, or friend group!
I hope I encouraged you enough to write and send letters to your friends! Thank you so much for reading this post, if you have any questions or comments leave them down below! If you’d like some more motivating reads, check out this page!
