Review
It’s not like your typical hair mask that you apply before or after a shower – it’s one that you apply in the shower. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good hair mask that you put on your dry hair when it’s super gross and greasy and in need of a wash, keep in for a few minutes (or hours), and rinse off in the shower. There is absolutely a time and place for those kinds of masks. The Trader Joe’s Shea Butter & Coconut Oil Hair Mask is different because it’s for those days that you don’t have time to wait around with a hair mask in. You apply it in the shower after shampoo, wait 3-5 minutes, then rinse it out. It’s essentially an extremely hydrating conditioner. It thoroughly hydrates your hair the same way that any good ole hair mask does.
It smells great, mainly coconut-y. The texture is thick and applies well when distributing it on the hair. After using it, my hair feels super smooth and it always looks more hydrated.
Now, I don’t want to hype this product up too much. There are definitely better and higher quality hair masks out there, but the reason I’m raving so much about this one is because the quality truly exceeds expectations, especially for the inexpensive price point that it’s at. You’re not buying a $50 hair mask, so I wouldn’t have $50 hair mask expectations with this one, but for a whopping average price of $3.99, it absolutely performs like a much more expensive hair mask than what it’s priced as. It feels very high quality and is comparable to some of its pricier counterparts. Overall, it’s not the best you’ll ever use, but it’s an incredible and affordable hair mask option.
I think I’ll always keep this hair mask in rotation, mainly because of how easy it is to use. With normal hair masks, I keep them in for hours and almost plan my day around having them in my hair all day. With the Trader Joe’s mask, you’re still getting quite a bit of hydration, but without the typical hassle of a hair mask. Couldn’t ask for a more hydrating, easy, inexpensive, and great product!
