The October 2021 bullet journal theme is California Poppies! I love how this month’s spread turned out!
Inspiration Behind The Theme
Alrighty folks! My inspiration for this theme was Halloween, but not too Halloween. By default, of course I wanted to make this month Harry Potter themed, but for some reason, I just wasn’t fully invested in that idea for this month. I wanted something a bit more light and flowy. Sooo I chose to draw California poppies! If you’ve been to California, hopefully you’ve seen the beautiful state flower that we have here, poppies! They are so cheerful and happy looking. Since California poppies are orange and golden tones, I thought they’d be perfect for the month of October to tie in with orange for Halloween. I kept the colors in this month’s spread very orange and black, yet still very elegant.
MATERIALS USED
- Archer & Olive A5 Falling Skies 192 Pages Dot Grid Notebook (the best bujo book)
- Mechanical Pencil (for sketching everything out)
- Hi-Polymer Block Eraser
- Sakura Pigma Micron 03 Pen
- Fudenosuke Brush Pen, Hard Tip, Black
- Crayola Super Tips Marker Set (the staple markers for bujo-ers)
Layout
CALENDAR
The first page of the monthly spread is the month planner/calendar. The boxes in the calendar are each 6 dots wide x 6 dots tall – which is small, but there’s definitely enough room to fill in birthdays and events. On the left side, there is a section for notes (I hardly ever end up using the notes section, but for some reason it comforts me to draw it in each monthly spread haha).
DAILY PLANNER
My most used section of the spread – the daily planner pages! If you’ve followed along with my previous bujo spread, here’s a bit of a shocker… I used a NEW layout for the daily planner pages! Very surprising, I know. Especially because I’ve previously mentioned that I almost exclusively always use the other daily planner layout. I felt like trying out something new, so I did! In this new layout, one week takes up two full pages. The section for each day is 10 dots tall. That extra blank space on the top left I’m planning on using as an additional notes/to-do section. I’m hoping that I like using this new layout, I love the way it looks regardless!
I had a blast creating this month’s bujo theme. It feels festive for Halloween, but not too festive. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to create your own bullet journal. It’s so fun to personalize them and be creative with it!
