Review
Where to begin? I discovered this stir-fry kit a few months ago and it has been a staple in my fridge ever since. It is so tasty, while also being super nutritious, so it’s a win win in my books. I love the vegetable-to-rice ratio, as there are a lot more veggies than there is rice, but there’s enough rice to make you feel like you’re getting in a good starchy carb. In my experience, the veggies in the kit have always been super fresh and delicious – of course, as long as you have the kit before the expiration date. The miso sauce is amazing as well. It’s not too sweet at all, but sometimes I do add a bit of soy sauce or salt if I want it to be a little more savory!
You can absolutely eat this kit on its own, but I like to add in a protein along with it to make it a complete, nutritionally dense meal. For protein, I tend to add tofu, Trader Joe’s Chicken-less Mandarin Orange Morsels, or chicken (I’ve heard shrimp goes well with it too). With an added protein or not, I feel great about the nutritional value of this kit, as it’s packed with great ingredients!
In addition to the nutritional value. I’m very impressed with the nutrition facts. Packaged salads and kits usually seem great, but where they get you is in the dressing or sauce. Typically, the dressing or sauce is packed with sugar, fat, sodium, cholesterol, carbs, and ingredients that aren’t the best for you. While yes, the miso sauce that comes with this kit has a lot of ingredients and may not be the best for you, it’s better than the majority of sauces that I’ve seen in packaged kits. It hardly has any sugar, fat, sodium, cholesterol, and carbs. I mean, you’re having veggies and brown rice… you can treat yourself a little bit with a yummy sauce.
The best thing about the Trader Joe’s packaged salads and kits is that the instructions are so clear and simple and they all only take a few minutes to make. This kit takes less than 10 minutes to cook up and is a perfect meal! Overall, I couldn’t recommend this enough. It’s the perfect thing to keep in your fridge for those days that you don’t know what to eat and don’t feel like spending a long time making something. Highly highly recommend!
